Farm Intern (UNPAID)

Job Description: 

Singing Pastures Farm is seeking applicants for a summer internship opportunity. Dates are approximately June-August. Exact start and end dates will be established with the right applicant. Minimum commitment is 6 weeks. This is an unpaid internship. 

Singing Pastures Farm is a 175 acre farm located in the beautiful rolling hills of Newcastle, ME. Once a dairy farm, the farm now implements multi-species grazing, with a heavy emphasis on pasture-raised pigs. There is also a herd of dairy cows grazed on the farm during the summer. 

Singing Pastures Farm is a Savory Institute Hub Farm, utilizing holistic grazing management and regenerative agricultural practices. In addition, our farm team will be working closely to monitor soil health, water quality, and forage quality. Candidates should have a strong interest in working with livestock and learning about how agricultural practices can restore land. This position requires a great deal of physical exertion, so physical stamina is required. Candidates should be hard working, open to learning, and have a sense of humor.

Duties & Responsibilities:
 
Our summer intern will work closely with the farm owners on day to day operations of the farm, approximately 40 hours per week. This will include:

  • Care of livestock including our pigs, cows, and chickens. (This includes extensive walking around the farm and carrying buckets of feed and water.)
  • Farm maintenance projects as needed. 
  • Facilitating the rotation of animals across pasture with electric fencing.
  • Assisting with record keeping.
