Research Technician - Melcher Laboratory

Van Andel Institute’s Melcher Laboratory, led by Karsten Melcher, Ph.D. is seeking to hire a Research Technician. 

Van Andel Institute is a leading independent biomedical research facility dedicated to determining the epigenetic, genetic, molecular and cellular origins of cancer, Parkinson’s and other diseases, and translating those findings into effective therapies. The Institute is home to more than 400 scientists and support staff that work in on-site laboratories and in collaborative partnerships that span the globe.
Dr. Melcher and his lab use cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), protein crystallography, and biochemical techniques to investigate the structure and function of proteins involved in cellular signaling.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual interested in learning and applying cutting edge structural biology and protein biochemistry techniques to unravel signaling mechanisms. In addition to curiosity and a willingness to learn new techniques, you must possess the following
Desired Skills
·      Molecular biology skills: DNA isolation, PCR, enzymatic reactions, electrophoresis
·      Bacterial or mammalian cell culture procedures
·      Protein SDS-PAGE, western blot
·      Various protein purification techniques
·      Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills: database management, online ordering, etc.

Qualifications:
Ø Bachelor's degree or higher degree in a biological science and a good understanding of cellular & molecular biology.
Ø 1-3 years of research experience in biochemistry, biophysics and/or molecular/cell biology.
