Special Teacher
Job Summary
The Special Teacher provides high quality education programming for Minnesota Sex Offender Program clients. In this role, the Special Teacher incorporates and monitors individual treatment plan goals to determine educational needs and develop education programs which support the clients as they build life skills for successful community reintegration. A successful Special Teacher fosters a therapeutic environment filled with healthy professional boundaries and interactions that demonstrate courtesy, dignity and mutual respect. The Special Teacher participates on the treatment team, demonstrating strong communication skills, respect, professional ethics and a spirit of collaboration.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
· Consulting with a multi-disciplinary team to initiate and oversee individual treatment planning and implementation for individual clients that assists clients in preparing for successful reintegration into a community setting
· Evaluating, developing and facilitating educational programming to meet client needs which may include fulfilling the requirements for the granting of a high school diploma, preparation for GED testing and individual enrichment
· Facilitating educational and skill-building opportunities for clients that will assist them in a successful treatment direction
· Completing progress notes, progress reports and other program materials to document educational work in accordance with facility standards for quality and timeliness
Minimum Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s of Arts (BA) or Bachelor’s of Science (BS) degree
AND
· Valid MN teaching license in one or more of the following content areas: Social Sciences, Reading, English, Mathematics, Special Education, and/or Adult Basic Education.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Certification in one of the following areas: Computer Applications, Mathematics, Language Arts or Special Education
· Computer applications knowledge (e.g. Microsoft Office, Adobe Design Suite)
· K-12 License in the areas of Art, Physical Education and/or Special Education
· Experience working in an education setting and/or a secure treatment facility
