Remote Economic Empowerment Spring Intern

TIME COMMITMENT: Interns: at least 2 days or 15-20 hours per week
(Please note that is an UNPAID internship opportunity.)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Complete intake forms with clients up to 5 years after arrival in the US to assess needs and refer to appropriate programs.
  • Research and identify programs and resources that enable refugees to meet their long-term educational, employment and life goals.
  • Ensure interaction with clients is documented in case notes and conduct follow-up with clients by phone and in person.
  • Input client information in a database and assist with tracking and reporting as necessary.
  • Provide translation and interpretation when necessary.
  • Assess immigration documentation of clients to determine program eligibility.
  • Display sensitivity to cultural and personality differences of refugee clients. Respect their beliefs and values. 
  • Adhere to IRC policies, particularly those related to confidentiality and client privacy. 
  • Other related duties as assigned, including answering and directing incoming phone calls.

Learn how to manage client cases within established deadlines
Make lasting impacts to IRC clients rebuilding their loves 

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Undergraduate level studies in social sciences, international relations or related field.
  • Preferred languages: French, Spanish, Arabic, Pashto, Dari/Farsi, Swahili
  • Strong desire to help refugees rebuild their lives in New Jersey.
  • Excellent attention to detail and effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Patience, understanding, flexibility, and an unceasingly positive attitude
  • Willing to learn about IRC history, philosophy, global work, and local efforts.
  • Willing to adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies.
