Patient and Administration Volunteers for Hospice

Hospice Volunteer Options
THE MEDICAL TEAM Hospice is looking for volunteers who want to dedicate their time to providing compassion to our patients.

Patient Volunteer
As a volunteer you may make visits at a patients’ private home or at a nursing facility where they reside. The role of a volunteer would be to spend quality time with our patients engaging them in conversation and/or activities. A volunteer and patient may do activities together such as: play cards, read books, watch TV/movies, listen to music, go for walks, shopping, paint nails, beauty care, games, arts/crafts and other numerous leisure activities. Our patients enjoy music therapy, art, and pet therapy if available. Also, there are opportunities to help with the facilities' activities/events. I am also able to sign off on service hours if needed.

Administrative Volunteer
There are different ways to volunteer for hospice other than visiting with patients, you can spend time helping out with office tasks. Volunteering in the office consist of many tangible tasks such as: answering the phone, making phone calls to patients' family/caregiver, putting together admission patient handbooks, filing, organizing papers/files and any other helpful office task. It is also a great way to get a perspective on health care administration. A volunteer in our office is very helpful and appreciated.

Facility Activity Volunteer
You will be placed at a nursing home or an assisted living facility where our patients reside. I will set you up with the Activity director of the facility to help with activities or you can go on your own and lead the activity. You may do things like paint nails, host bingo, make crafts, play games, help with special events, and any other activities you are willing to help with.

Certified Therapy Volunteer (pet)
If your pet is a licensed therapy animal then consider bringing him/her around to meet and spend time with our patients in their home or facilities. Most of our patients live in facilities or are not able to care for their own pet anymore, but enjoy being able to pet and get affection from an animal. Please consider using your skills to help comfort our patients.
