Senior Psychiatric Social Worker

Are you seeking an opportunity to make a difference in diverse communities, enhance your clinical skills in a fast-paced, team environment, and be a part of a department with the mission to strengthen communities by improving the health of individuals and families? As a Senior Psychiatric Social Worker, you will work alongside mental health practitioners and professionals providing in-home crisis response to the community! You will work on the adult Mental Health Mobile Crisis team (COPE) which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. 
 
Location and hours:
This position will require employees to work both on-site at the Health Services Building and remote within the community, at various locations.  The Health Services Building is located at 525 Portland Ave. S, Minneapolis MN, 55415. The work hours for this position will be Friday - Monday 2 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., or every Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, & every other Saturday & Sunday 2 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. 
 
In this position, you will:  
  • Conduct initial mental health screening of adults, children, and adolescents in crisis via phone to determine client needs.
  • Provide mobile crisis assessment for adults, adolescents, children, and/or families in a client's home or community setting.
  • Complete mental status examinations, determine appropriate provisional diagnoses, and develop short-term treatment goals & intervention plans based on the individual's identified needs.
  • Complete documentation in electronic medical record according to statute.
  • Collaborate and consult with other mental health professionals, case managers, and family members with the appropriate authorization as needed.
Need to have:
  • You must have the following:
  • Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field and two or more years of post-master's degree experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting.
  • Qualification as a Mental Health Professional or ability to qualify within one year of hire.
  • A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation to visit community sites throughout Hennepin County..
Nice to have:   
  • Experience:
  • Handling mental health crisis, including diagnosis and treatment of clients in crisis.
  • Conducting mental health screenings and risk assessments.
  • Providing mental health services to adults, children/adolescents, and their families at home and in community settings.
  • Working with Native American population.
  • Utilizing therapeutic intervention skills.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Cultural differences in beliefs and practices relating to mental health, treatment, family structure, and dynamics.
  • County and community resources.
  • Ability to:
  • Function well in unpredictable and challenging situations calling for sensitivity, flexibility, resourcefulness, and independent judgment.
  • Interact with people with little or no English skills.

Candidates must be committed to working with diverse community populations. 
Ideal candidates will have professional experience working with the Native American population. Candidates with fluency in Somali , Spanish, and/or Hmong in addition to English are encouraged to apply.
