Business Development Intern

Business Development Intern 

Waivunia - The Island Development Initiative is seeking an Intern for Fall 2019. The Intern will assist the Board of Directors of this 501(c)(3) startup nonprofit with developing a business plan as well as other startup related business tasks. 
 
 
We’re looking for a responsible individual who is dependable, organized, and willing to learn about our internationally-focused organization and the needs of rural island communities. The internship is open to any qualified candidate. You’ll learn from island development experts, who have decades of experience living and working on islands around the world. 
 
 
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: 
• to learn about nonprofit business planning, rural island development, and to develop a business plan for Waivunia. 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
• good research and writing skills in English; 
• interest in international development; 
• ability to work cooperatively, courteously, and remotely with others; 
• good organizational skills; and 
• responsible, dependable and willing to learn. 
DUTIES: 
• performs research; 
• attends Board meetings; 
• develops business plan; and 
• performs other duties as assigned by the Intern Supervisor. 
 
 
Business students, or individuals with a similar focus, are preferred. The Internship is unpaid but the office will provide any necessary assistance for the Intern to receive academic credit at his/her respective college or university if needed. Training and work will be done remotely.
