Wildlife Assistant 6-8 - Allegan State Game Area

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Assist with the development and maintenance of wildlife habitat, infrastructure, and facilities on State-owned wildlife areas, primarily Allegan State Game Area. These jobs are accomplished through intensive farming practices, timber harvest, mowing and land clearing, water level manipulation in impoundments, and use of heavy and light equipment. Assist with other management unit responsibilities, including wildlife surveys, nuisance animal control, and equipment maintenance. Assist with the collection of biological data. Oversees and performs the maintenance, scheduling and transportation of equipment between various offices in the Southwest Lower Peninsula Region. Assists with managed waterfowl hunting at the Fennville Farm Unit of the Allegan State Game Area. Assist with providing daily direction to temporary, non-career employees.

Within six months of employment this position is expected to obtain and maintain:
  • Commercial driver's license (CDL) issued by the Secretary of State as required by Public Act 346 of 1988 to operate a designated state vehicle.
  • Medical's examiner's certificate (health card), or if medically disqualified, have a medical waiver (or Grandfather Rights card), depending on the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or Gross Combination Weight Rating (GVCWR) as required by the Motor Carrier Safety Act of 1963-Act 181 as part of the CDL acquisition process.
  • Commercial Pesticide Applicator's license.
