Science & Innovation Intern - Boston Consulate -Cambridge, Massachusetts

The Science and Innovation (S&I) team in Boston seeks a Science and Innovation Intern for the 2019 Fall semester. This is an opportunity to learn about UK government science and innovation policy, as well as explore opportunities in international science diplomacy.
 
The UK S&I network works to understand and influence US policies on cutting-edge science & innovation, inform UK government science policy, and make connections for UK research to inspire strategic science collaborations and partnerships to benefit UK prosperity and policy goals.
The successful candidate will join a team of two led by the Regional Director for Science & Innovation, East Coast. The Boston S&I team maintains the UK government’s science and innovation interests in the Northeastern United States (New York, Connecticut, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, & Massachusetts), and is one of 7 S&I teams throughout the US coordinated by the British Embassy in Washington, DC. Globally, the UK S&I network comprises over 110 officers in 40+ countries around the world.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research and report on priority sectors in the Northeastern United States, notably AI/Machine Learning, Health and Life Sciences, Clean Growth, and Agritech, to inform policy reporting and S&I activities.
  • Perform background research and produce briefings to contribute to successful visits, meetings and broader engagement with the institutions and organizations in our region.
  • Attend meetings, events or conferences covering S&I topics.
  • Establish, manage and attend meetings to engage with local stakeholders.
  • Focus on conception and delivery of high-profile science events.
