Check-Out Volunteer
Position: Check-Out Volunteer
Reports To: Program Manager
Objective: To assist Members by checking out items and tracking Members’ points
Specific Tasks:
- Add items to order using the POS check-out system
- Assist Members with tracking points per item and points per order
- Provide Members with a receipt after each checkout
- Bag groceries
- Stay up to date with daily specials or irregular items and inform Members of these if needed
- Clean checkout belts and bagging area as needed
- Perform light stocking or repacking as needed if checkout traffic is light
- Uphold and demonstrate the Community Food Club values of choice and dignity by practicing a judgment-free approach that ensures Members (not volunteers or staff) choose which items to purchase
- Maintain confidentiality of Member information at all times
Qualifications:
- Positive attitude and good communication
- Must have a commitment to providing a consistently high level of customer service to all Members
- Willingness to learn and implement basic food safety practices
- Ability to stand for the duration of shift
Time Commitment: 1-2 hour shifts based on availability
Paperwork and Training Details:
Volunteers must complete a registration form, waiver, and submit to a Michigan state background check. Minors (under 18 years of age) must be authorized to volunteer by a parent or guardian. Once the paperwork has been received and processed, a Food Club staff member will reach out regarding a volunteer orientation. There is a required 1-hour orientation prior to volunteering. Ongoing one-on-one training as needed in the specific role the volunteer selects.
