Series and Grades: GS-0455 - 04, 05, 06

Hourly Wage: $14.30-$17.84

Responsibilities

This position will assist in implementation of the park's vegetation management field program. Emphasis areas include invasive plant/noxious weed control, vegetation mapping, inventory and monitoring, and rangeland management and restoration activities. The incumbent operates as a member of the seasonal field staff, normally on a crew of ten to fifteen individuals, but also in smaller groups or alone at times.

Invasive plant management responsibilities will include:
  • Invasive plant treatments via herbicide application using backpack sprayers, utility terrain vehicles (UTVs), and trucks with mounted spray equipment
  • Invasive plant removal by mechanical means, utilizing hand and power tools
  • Record keeping of invasive plant treatment data and field notes
  • GPS & GIS data collection and management
  • Safe operation of trucks, trailers, and various other equipment
  • Carry out assignments primarily in frontcountry areas but also to include backcountry, riparian and riverine/lakeside locations
The incumbent also performs the following duties, as needed:
  • Ensure the park's rangeland fences are maintained and will occasionally construct new fence or remove old fence as needed
  • Assist with rangeland restoration projects including drill seeding, invasive plant management, and equipment operation
  • Assist with revegetation projects of various sizes and scope
  • Contribute to and assist with ongoing vegetation and rangeland research and monitoring
  • Assist with irrigation of 1000 - 2000 acres of rangeland pasture utilized by cattle, bison, antelope, elk, and other animals
  • Operate tractors and associated implements under rangeland conditions
  • Perform Integrated Pest Management (IPM) assignments
