OPEN UNTIL FILLED

Under immediate direction of the Assistant Director of Human Resources, assists with human resource functions including recruiting, benefits, and general HR administrative support. This is an opportunity for recent high school-college bound or current college students to learn the functionality of a management or human resource position as well as the technical support required in a Human Resources position. This temporary position will last the semester and may last more than one semester. 
 
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
 
This position is an internship position and does not function as a supervisor.
Examples of Duties
General employment functions for payroll, benefits, training, application screening, reference checks, pre-employment testing, and new hire processing and paperwork. 

Work on special human resource projects.

Collects and prepares information regarding position descriptions. May observe jobs and interview workers for a job analysis. 

Greets and directs customers as well as answer general questions. 

Assists with monitoring HR functions as assigned to include employment recruitment, benefits, training, payroll processing, and HRIS systems.

Gains human resource compliance knowledge by reviewing current state and federal legislation as it relates to the field of Human Resources.

Performs other job related tasks in conjunction with the learning process.
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge of:
 
A variety of computer software applications, especially Excel and Microsoft Word.
 
Office administration procedures.
 
 
Skill to:
 
Function with a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documents.
 
Attention to detail in composing, typing and proof-reading materials.
 
Establish priorities and meeting deadlines.
 
Operate computer equipment.
 
Use basic mathematical skills including percentages and means.
 
 
Ability to:
 
           Communicate both orally and in writing.
 
Operate standard office equipment.
 
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.
           
                                                             
Experience and Training Guidelines:
Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:
 
 
Experience and Education:
 
Graduation from High School or GED certification is required as well as current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college or university.
           
 
Special Requirements:
 
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
 
Confidentiality is of the utmost importance. Interns are required to keep all information in confidence.
 
The position requires the ability to work in a standard office environment.
 
The selected Intern should provide the Assistant Director of HR with a planned schedule at the beginning of the semester for the Spring or Fall semester.
