Remote Data Science Volunteer Internship at SOFWERX-Spring 2019
Organization:
SOFWERX, a venue operated under an agreement between the United States Special
Operations Command (USSOCOM) and the Doolittle Institute, is designed to solve the most difficult warfighter problems with collaboration and innovation. The goal of SOFWERX is to accelerate and
facilitate innovative capability through exploration, experimentation, and assessment of promising
technology. The SOFWERX facility is easily accessible, located in the
heart of Ybor City.
Responsibilities:
−Working with the Doolittle Institute to design, prototype, and test various software systems
−Assisting with research conduction on technological topics
−Consulting, collaborating, and engaging with subject matter experts and interns in varying fields to proactively work on projects
Requirements:
−Passion for Data Science, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Computer Vision.
−Works well on remote teams while demonstrating independence
−Effective written and oral communication skills
−Good planning and organizational skills
−Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
−Must be willing and able to work in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment
−Willing to learn software like GitHub, Docker, and Asana
Preferred:
−Strong background in software development and programming C++, Cuda, Tensorflow, Java and Python
−Strong background in mobile development including ARM, Raspberry Pi, and Android devices
Time commitment:
−Position requires a minimum of 15 hours per week during the Spring and Fall semesters
