NGS Lab Site Manager for Angstrom Innovation in Louisville, KY

NGS Lab Site Manager

Louisville, KY | $65,000–$80,000/year

Angstrom Innovation is building a new next-generation sequencing (NGS) laboratory in Louisville, Kentucky, and we are looking for an NGS Lab Manager to help establish and lead the operation.

This is a hands-on laboratory leadership role. You will help build the laboratory from the ground up, establish and maintain workflows, hire and manage technicians, oversee daily operations, and ensure that we consistently deliver high-quality sequencing results to our customers.

We are especially looking for someone who is excited about Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) sequencing and enthusiastic about building a modern sequencing operation.

What You'll Do

Help establish and launch Angstrom's new Louisville NGS laboratory

Set up laboratory workflows, equipment, supplies, and standard operating procedures

Lead daily laboratory operations, typically working 5:00 AM–1:00 PM

Perform, oversee, and troubleshoot Oxford Nanopore sequencing workflows

Hire, train, supervise, and manage laboratory technicians

Establish and maintain high standards for sample handling, sequencing quality, and data integrity

Monitor laboratory performance, troubleshoot problems, and ensure issues are resolved quickly

Maintain SOPs, records, and other laboratory documentation

Manage laboratory inventory, supplies, and equipment

Coordinate with Angstrom's Berkeley team and other technical staff

Identify opportunities to improve laboratory efficiency, throughput, and quality

Help build the Louisville team and laboratory culture as the operation grows

This is not a purely administrative management position. You will work alongside the laboratory team at the bench and should be comfortable jumping into technical work when needed.

What We're Looking For

Experience working in a molecular biology, genomics, sequencing, or related laboratory

Experience with NGS workflows; Oxford Nanopore experience is preferred

Experience training, supervising, or leading laboratory personnel

Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality laboratory work

Ability to troubleshoot technical problems independently

Strong organizational and communication skills

Ability to take ownership and operate independently

Comfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment where processes are continuously being developed and improved

Genuine enthusiasm for sequencing technology and learning new approaches

You do not need to know every aspect of our workflows on day one. We are looking for someone who is technically capable, learns quickly, takes ownership, and is excited about building something new.

Berkeley Training

Before starting in Louisville, the successful candidate will complete approximately 2 weeks of on-site training at Angstrom Innovation's laboratory in Berkeley, California.

The training will provide hands-on experience with our sequencing workflows, equipment, quality standards, software, and operating procedures and will prepare you to lead the Louisville laboratory. Support from our Berkeley team will be ongoing.

Schedule

The typical working schedule will be approximately 5:00 AM–1:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

The early start is an important part of the role because our laboratory operations are designed around early-morning sample processing and sequencing.

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands-on laboratory position. The ability to:

Stand and work at a laboratory bench for extended periods

Walk and move around the laboratory throughout the workday

Repeatedly handle small samples, tubes, plates, and laboratory components

Move and reposition small pieces of benchtop laboratory equipment and supplies

Perform routine laboratory tasks requiring fine motor skills

Compensation & Benefits

$65,000–$80,000 annual salary, depending on experience and qualifications

Health insurance and other benefits available

Paid two-week training period in Berkeley, California

Company holidays

Opportunity for increasing responsibility as the Louisville laboratory grows
