Position Summary 

The Production Manager owns all production operations at the Kutztown facility — including molding, assembly, and packaging — reporting directly to the Director of Operations. This is a senior leadership role focused on driving down manufacturing cost, maximizing efficiency and equipment uptime, and ensuring consistent quality, while building a high-accountability team culture backed by clear KPIs and tracking. The Production Manager sets the standard for best-in-class production performance and develops the Production Leads, Operators, and Associates who deliver it every shift. 

Key Skills 

  • Production Leadership: Running multi-shift molding, assembly, and packaging operations 
  • Manufacturing Cost Control: Labor efficiency, scrap/yield, overtime, and budget variance 
  • KPI & Performance Management: OEE, throughput, and accountability systems that drive results 
  • Lean & Continuous Improvement: Waste reduction and root cause problem-solving (Six Sigma a plus) 
  • Quality & Safety: Corrective actions, specification compliance, and a visible safety culture 
  • Production Planning & Scheduling: Capacity planning and ERP/MRP-based scheduling 
  • Team Development: Hiring, coaching, and building a bench of Leads and Operators 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Direct and manage all production operations across departments (molding, assembly/packaging, and other manufacturing lines), ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality output 
  • Own production cost performance, including labor efficiency, material yield/scrap, overtime, and other controllable manufacturing costs against budget 
  • Build and maintain a comprehensive KPI and reporting framework (OEE, throughput, scrap/yield, cost per unit, on-time completion, safety, quality) with regular reporting to the Director of Operations and leadership team 
  • Establish clear accountability structures across shifts and departments, ensuring Production Leads and Operators are measured against defined performance standards 
  • Drive continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives to reduce cost, cycle time, and waste across all production areas 
  • Partner with Quality to ensure products consistently meet specifications; lead root cause investigations and corrective actions for quality deviations and customer complaints 
  • Manage production scheduling and capacity planning in coordination with Planning/Supply Chain to meet customer demand 
  • Recruit, train, coach, and develop Production Leads, Operators, and Associates; build a strong bench of talent and a clear succession pipeline 
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, set individual and team goals, and hold direct reports accountable to results 
  • Own headcount planning, staffing levels, and overtime management to balance cost and output 
  • Partner with Maintenance and Engineering to maximize equipment uptime and prioritize repair and capital investment needs 
  • Ensure full compliance with safety regulations and drive a strong, visible safety culture across all production areas 
  • Manage production department budgets; track and report variances and identify cost-saving opportunities 
  • Lead or support new product introductions, line changes, and process validations 
  • Communicate regularly with the Director of Operations on production performance, risks, and improvement opportunities 
  • Perform other tasks as assigned 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered 
  • 5+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience, including managing Leads or Supervisors across multiple production areas or shifts 
  • Proven track record of driving cost reduction, efficiency gains, and quality improvement in a manufacturing environment 
  • Strong understanding of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and root cause problem-solving methodologies (Six Sigma a plus) 
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage KPI/reporting systems and hold teams accountable to metrics 
  • Experience with production planning/scheduling and budget management 
  • Strong people leadership skills, with experience hiring, developing, and managing the performance of hourly and salaried staff 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office/Excel; experience with ERP/MRP and production tracking systems 
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate data into clear action for both floor teams and executive leadership 
  • Consumer packaged goods and/or plastics/injection molding manufacturing experience strongly preferred 
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment 

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to stand, walk, and be present on the production floor for extended periods 
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs occasionally 
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with noise and temperature variations 
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional off-shift or weekend coverage as needed 

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) 

  • Manufacturing Cost: Cost per unit and cost variance to budget 
  • Equipment Effectiveness: OEE and line throughput across production areas 
  • Scrap/Yield Rate: Minimizing material loss across production lines 
  • Quality: Defect rate, first-pass yield, and customer complaint rate 
  • Safety: Zero reportable incidents; safety audit and LOTO compliance 
  • Labor Efficiency: Labor performance and overtime management versus plan 
  • Schedule Adherence: On-time production completion across all lines 
  • Team Development: Retention, training completion, and bench strength of Leads and Operators
