ABOUT PROJECT GUARDIAN

Project Guardian is a Kenya-centered infrastructure pilot and fundability initiative. The project examines how infrastructure, institutional capacity, public policy, community needs, financing, risk, and implementation systems may be integrated into a credible development framework.

Project Guardian remains a planning, research, and program-development initiative. Internship work does not constitute licensed engineering, legal advice, investment advice, government representation, or authorization to make commitments on behalf of the company or an external organization.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Data Visualization & Dashboard Analyst Intern will support the transformation of authorized project information into accurate, accessible, and decision-useful charts, dashboards, scorecards, and visual reporting materials.

The participant may help define preliminary performance indicators, organize reporting data, create dashboard prototypes, test visual representations, document calculations, and communicate findings to multidisciplinary audiences.

This role emphasizes non-geographic data visualization and performance reporting. It is distinct from the GIS & Infrastructure Visualization Analyst position, which focuses primarily on maps, spatial data, and geographic analysis.

This is an educational analyst position. The participant will work under supervision and will not independently establish official performance targets, certify project results, approve public disclosures, or represent preliminary dashboards as audited or authoritative reporting systems.

PROGRAM TERMS

Program dates: October 19, 2026–January 29, 2027
Expected commitment: Normally 5–10 hours per week
Holiday pause: December 19, 2026–January 3, 2027; no routine work is expected
Priority application deadline: October 2, 2026

Work exceeding 10 hours in a week requires advance written approval and ordinarily should not exceed approximately 15 hours. The internship does not create a promise or expectation of future employment.

EDUCATIONAL STRUCTURE

This is a structured, project-based learning experience. Participants receive defined learning objectives, supervised assignments, written feedback, revision opportunities, and exposure to multidisciplinary infrastructure, policy, research, finance, data, and program-management work.

Participants will produce portfolio-appropriate work subject to confidentiality, data-security, attribution, and release requirements.

Academic credit may be available only when approved by the participant’s institution. Participants are responsible for initiating their institution’s credit process, and Morsby, Gorman, McCarthy LLC will reasonably cooperate with required documentation and evaluations. Academic credit is not guaranteed and is not required to participate.

ROLE PURPOSE

The purpose of this internship is to help the participant develop practical experience translating complex or incomplete project information into clear visual reporting products without overstating what the underlying evidence establishes.

The intern will learn how dashboards and visualizations can assist project monitoring, planning, risk communication, research synthesis, and decision support. The participant will also learn to recognize the risks created by weak definitions, inconsistent data, misleading chart design, unsupported precision, inaccessible presentation, and undocumented calculations.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the internship, the participant should be better able to:

Translate analytical questions into appropriate visual-reporting requirements.

Distinguish metrics, key performance indicators, milestones, outputs, outcomes, risks, assumptions, and contextual indicators.

Develop preliminary metric definitions with documented units, formulas, sources, update schedules, limitations, and responsible owners.

Assess whether available information is suitable for a proposed chart, dashboard, or scorecard.

Organize, clean, validate, and document authorized datasets under supervision.

Select appropriate chart types based on the intended question and audience.

Create clear, accurate, accessible, and appropriately qualified visualizations.

Avoid distorted scales, misleading comparisons, unsupported precision, and visually exaggerated conclusions.

Develop dashboard prototypes using approved tools.

Document calculation logic, transformations, filters, and source dependencies.

Apply basic quality-assurance and user-testing methods to visual reporting.

Incorporate supervisory and multidisciplinary feedback into revised deliverables.

Explain limitations, missing data, uncertainty, and methodological choices in plain language.

POTENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Assignments may include:

Reviewing project documents to identify legitimate reporting questions and information needs.

Supporting the development of a preliminary measurement framework.

Drafting definitions for proposed indicators, milestones, and reporting fields.

Creating a metric dictionary or KPI reference sheet.

Organizing authorized data from spreadsheets, reports, research materials, or internal project records.

Checking datasets for missing values, duplicated records, inconsistent labels, conflicting dates, invalid formats, or unclear units.

Documenting data sources, update dates, calculation methods, limitations, and dependencies.

Creating charts, tables, scorecards, timelines, matrices, and dashboard prototypes.

Supporting visual reporting related to program progress, infrastructure planning, finance, risk, research, stakeholder coordination, or other approved workstreams.

Comparing alternative chart types and explaining which representation best supports the intended decision.

Creating filterable or interactive dashboard elements where technically appropriate.

Developing accessible color palettes, labels, legends, annotations, and alternative text.

Testing dashboard layouts for readability on different screen sizes or export formats.

Checking visualizations for accuracy, consistency, accessibility, and unsupported conclusions.

Preparing short narrative explanations to accompany charts and dashboards.

Maintaining revision histories and reproducibility notes.

Coordinating with research, finance, operations, communications, GIS, and engineering-oriented participants under supervision.

Revising deliverables in response to documented feedback.

Contributing to final learning reflections and approved portfolio materials.

Assignments will be calibrated to the participant’s experience. A participant may begin with guided spreadsheet-based visualization or undertake more advanced business-intelligence work when supported by demonstrated capability and appropriate supervision.

POSSIBLE EDUCATIONAL OUTPUTS

Depending on project needs and data availability, supervised outputs may include:

A preliminary measurement or reporting framework.

A metric dictionary or KPI definition register.

A source and calculation inventory.

A data-quality assessment.

A dashboard requirements memorandum.

Static dashboard or scorecard mockups.

An interactive dashboard prototype.

A chart and visual-reporting style guide.

A dashboard quality-assurance checklist.

A brief explaining key findings and limitations.

A reproducibility note documenting calculations, transformations, filters, and sources.

A revised final visualization package.

A reflective memorandum describing methods learned, feedback received, limitations encountered, and revisions completed.

All outputs are preliminary unless expressly approved otherwise in writing.

SUPERVISION, FEEDBACK, AND REVISION

The participant will receive:

An initial orientation to Project Guardian, role boundaries, confidentiality expectations, and approved systems.

Defined assignments with intended learning outcomes.

Access to relevant project materials on a need-to-know basis.

A designated supervisor or project lead.

Periodic check-ins appropriate to the assignment.

Written or documented feedback on substantive work.

Reasonable opportunities to revise selected deliverables.

A concluding assessment or learning review when required by the program or an approved academic-credit arrangement.

The participant is expected to communicate data-quality concerns, methodological uncertainty, conflicting instructions, technical problems, and capacity limitations promptly.

Quality of metric definitions and source documentation.

Suitability of selected visualization methods.

Clarity, readability, and accessibility.

Recognition and communication of uncertainty and limitations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants may be pursuing or have completed education in fields such as:

Data analytics or data science.

DATA AND MEASUREMENT REQUIREMENTS

The participant must:

Use only public, licensed, company-provided, or otherwise authorized data.

Maintain clear source and transformation records.

Avoid combining datasets when their definitions, time periods, geographic scope, units, or underlying populations are materially incompatible.

Avoid presenting missing, estimated, modeled, or imputed values as directly observed facts.

Avoid establishing metrics merely because data is convenient to obtain.

Distinguish project activity from verified results or impact.

Avoid causal claims unless supported by an appropriate methodology and expressly approved.

Clearly label preliminary, illustrative, estimated, incomplete, or scenario-based information.

Escalate unexplained discrepancies, questionable sources, or material data-quality concerns.

Follow company requirements concerning data access, storage, transmission, retention, and deletion.

Dashboards must not create a false impression of certainty, completeness, real-time monitoring, independent verification, or official approval.

ACCESSIBILITY AND VISUAL-INTEGRITY REQUIREMENTS

Visual materials should, as appropriate:

Use readable typography and sufficient contrast.

Avoid relying exclusively on color to communicate meaning.

PROFESSIONAL AND ANALYTICAL LIMITS

Internship materials may support internal learning and preliminary planning, but they may not be presented as:

Audited financial or operational reporting.

An official monitoring-and-evaluation system.

A certified impact assessment.

A regulatory filing or compliance certification.

An independently verified performance report.

An engineering certification.

Investment, legal, accounting, or public-policy advice.

A government-authorized reporting platform.

Evidence that a proposed project has achieved outcomes that have not been independently established.

Final decisions and externally distributed materials require appropriate supervisory and professional review.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND AUTOMATED TOOLS

The participant may use approved digital or artificial-intelligence tools only in accordance with supervisory instructions and applicable confidentiality requirements.

AI-generated formulas, code, summaries, data classifications, chart recommendations, citations, or interpretations must not be treated as verified. The participant remains responsible for checking calculations, sources, logic, outputs, and limitations and for documenting material tool use when required.

Confidential, personal, proprietary, or restricted information may not be entered into an unapproved external system.

CONFIDENTIALITY, OWNERSHIP, AND PORTFOLIO USE

Participants may receive access to confidential, proprietary, pre-decisional, or restricted information. Access will be limited according to role and project need.

Work created within the internship may be subject to confidentiality, intellectual-property, attribution, and data-license requirements. Participants may not independently publish, distribute, reuse, or present project materials.

Portfolio use may be permitted only after prior written authorization and may require redaction, aggregation, modification, delayed release, or use of a separately approved public version.

APPLICATION MATERIALS

A current resume.

A cover letter explaining their interest in data visualization, dashboards, and the Project Guardian learning experience.

One relevant work sample, if available.

A work sample may include a dashboard, chart package, analytical spreadsheet, scorecard, data-quality exercise, visualization project, research presentation, academic assignment, or comparable material. Applicants may redact confidential information.

Applicants without a formal portfolio may submit relevant academic or independent work demonstrating analytical, quantitative, visual, or technical reasoning.

Any application exercise will be limited in scope, used only for candidate evaluation, and will not be used as uncompensated production work.

SELECTION PROCESS

Initial review may be conducted asynchronously based on submitted application materials. Finalists may be invited to a limited interview or asked for clarification concerning their experience, availability, learning goals, or work sample.
