SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Production Supervisor Intern, you will gain hands-on experience supporting and leading manufacturing operations within a dynamic production environment. This role provides exposure to frontline leadership, employee engagement, production planning, safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will partner closely with plant leadership to understand how supervisors drive operational performance while fostering a safe, productive, and positive work environment.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will include:

Production Operations

• Support daily manufacturing operations to meet safety, quality, delivery, and productivity objectives.
• Monitor production schedules and assist in meeting customer demand requirements.
• Participate in daily production meetings and shift communications.
• Gain exposure to assembly, machining, and shipping processes.
• Assist supervisors in coordinating workflow and resolving production issues.

Safety Leadership:

• Participate in safety observations and facility inspections.
• Support safety initiatives and employee engagement activities.
• Assist with near-miss investigations and corrective action tracking.
• Promote a culture of safety accountability across the facility.

Employee Leadership & Development:

• Shadow production supervisors to understand frontline leadership responsibilities.
• Participate in employee coaching discussions and team meetings.
• Support onboarding and training activities for new hires.
• Develop effective communication skills with hourly associates.

Continuous Improvement:

• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and workflow.
• Participate in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist with standard work documentation and process updates.
• Support and lead elements of a structured internship project.

Performance Metrics & Reporting:

• Track and analyze key operational metrics, including safety, attendance, productivity, scrap, downtime, on-time delivery, and overtime utilization.
• Develop reports and presentations to communicate findings to leadership.

Internship Project:

• Complete a capstone project focused on improving plant performance in areas such as productivity, safety, quality, training effectiveness, or process standardization.
• Present project results and recommendations to plant leadership at the conclusion of the internship

Required Experience:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Human Resources, or a related field.
• Demonstrated communication skills and leadership potential.
• Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization, including hourly production employees.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Previous experience in manufacturing, warehouse, agriculture, construction, military, or other hands-on environments.
• Involvement in student organizations, athletics, or leadership activities.
• Interest in pursuing a career in manufacturing leadership, supervision, or operations management.

Education & Certifications:

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in a related field is required.

Travel & Working Environment:

• Minimal travel required (less than 5%).
• Primary work environment is an office within a manufacturing facility.
