“Remote support” means you support people remotely. You work from our secure monitoring site in the Short North — not from home. It’s a safety-critical position and the console is staffed in person.

WHAT YOU’D BE DOING

People with developmental disabilities live in their own apartments because someone is watching out for them overnight. That’s you.

You’ll monitor live video and audio for medically fragile clients you come to know well. You’ll spot a seizure, reflux distress, or someone up and wandering — and know within about sixty seconds whether to text, call, send backup, or dial 911. Every event gets documented in real time.

It requires sustained attention and fast, well-judged decisions. No experience required — we train you, and you’re never alone on a shift.

WHY THIS BEATS MOST CAMPUS JOBS

This is documented direct patient-contact experience — the kind nursing, PA, OT, PT, and medical school applications ask you to count.

You won’t be filing or answering phones. Within your first month you’re making real decisions about a real person’s safety, supervised, and documenting them to a clinical standard. When an interviewer asks what you actually did, you’ll have specifics instead of generalities.

And overnight blocks are the ones that don’t collide with lectures. Students who work here tell us it’s the rare job that fits a class schedule and still counts for something.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Observe multiple camera feeds; stay at the console except during scheduled relief breaks
• Act within approximately 60 seconds of any trigger — seizure, reflux distress, elopement
• Follow paid vs. unpaid backup ladders through all contacts, up to 911 if needed
• Enter clear, time-stamped notes for alerts, calls, and shift summaries; hand off cleanly to the next RSA or the day team
• Perform routine camera and audio checks; escalate unresolved tech issues
• Uphold HIPAA standards; join scenario drills, debriefs, and monthly QA meetings

TIME WITH PEOPLE, NOT JUST SCREENS

A small part of your hours will be spent in person with the same people you monitor overnight.

We do this because it works. Our strongest remote associates are the ones who’ve sat in someone’s kitchen and watched how they actually move through a day. When you know how a person lives, you know what a hesitation on camera means at two in the morning. You can’t learn that from a monitor.

For a student, this is the part that matters: you get remote clinical judgment and hands-on direct care hours from one job. Most positions give you one or the other.

It’s a minority of your schedule and depends on your availability. If in-person work isn’t possible for you — a disability, a health condition, transportation, anything — tell us. We have people who work the console only, and we’d rather adjust than lose someone good.

BUILT AROUND A CLASS SCHEDULE

• Shift blocks of 4, 6, or 8 hours between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m., bid on each period
• Flexible, bid-based scheduling — you choose from what’s available
• Start at 10 hours a week; scale up over breaks and summer
• Tell us about midterms and finals in advance and we’ll schedule around them

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Currently enrolled in an accredited college program, or hold a bachelor’s degree or higher
• Solid computer skills — Windows, web apps, VoIP
• Reliable transportation; punctual for overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts
• Ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and required immunizations

We hire well from Nursing, Health Sciences, Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Speech & Hearing Science, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Human Development and Family Science, Special Education, Neuroscience, Biology, and other pre-health tracks. If your major isn’t listed and this work pulls at you, apply anyway — some of our best people came from outside health care.

PREFERRED EXTRAS

• 1+ year in telehealth, dispatch, security operations, or DD direct support
• CPR/First Aid, or willingness to obtain before your start date

PHYSICAL & COGNITIVE DEMANDS

• Sit or stand at a monitoring console for extended periods — typically up to four hours between scheduled relief breaks
• Maintain continuous visual and auditory focus across multiple screens
• Communicate clearly, spoken and written, under time pressure
