WHAT YOU’D BE DOING

You’ll work with one person at a time, in their own home and out in their community. Helping with the parts of the day that are hard, and staying out of the way of the parts that aren’t.

Cooking dinner together. Getting to a shift at Bath & Body Works. A doctor’s appointment. The county fair. The work is ordinary, and that’s the point — ordinary is what independence looks like.

No experience required. We train you.

WHY THIS BEATS MOST CAMPUS JOBS

This is documented direct patient-contact experience — hands-on, one-to-one, with the same people over months. It’s exactly what nursing, PA, OT, PT, social work, and medical programs mean when they ask for direct care hours.

It’s also the best preparation we know of for any career involving people. You’ll learn to communicate with someone who communicates differently than you do. You’ll learn what dignity looks like when it’s a practice and not a word. Those aren’t soft skills — they’re the entire job.

WHAT YOU’LL ACTUALLY DO

• Assist with daily living: meals, hygiene, mobility, medication reminders
• Support someone at work, at appointments, and out in the community
• Help run a household — light housekeeping, laundry, cooking together
• Drive to appointments, work shifts, and social events
• Document your shift with EVV and pass along anything the nurse or family needs to know
• Learn alongside nurses and behavior specialists — and speak up when you notice something they should know

LEARN THE REMOTE SIDE TOO

Everyone we serve receives both direct and remote support. A portion of your hours may be spent providing remote support to people you already know in person.

Seeing the remote side shows you what your in-person work makes possible — the overnight check that lets someone keep their own apartment, the morning call that gets a day back on track. Staff who do both tell us each half teaches the other.

It’s a minority of your schedule and depends on your availability. If it isn’t a fit for you, say so and we’ll work with it.

BUILT AROUND A CLASS SCHEDULE

• Daytime and evening shifts — no overnight required in this role
• Shifts typically 4–8 hours with the same person, so you build a real relationship
• Start at 10 hours a week; scale up over breaks and summer
• Tell us about midterms and finals in advance and we’ll schedule around them

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Currently enrolled in an accredited college program, or a recent graduate
• High school diploma or GED
• A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance
• Ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and required immunizations

We hire well from Nursing, Health Sciences, Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Speech & Hearing Science, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Human Development and Family Science, Special Education, Occupational and Physical Therapy pre-professional tracks, Neuroscience, and Biology. If your major isn’t listed and this work pulls at you, apply anyway.

PREFERRED EXTRAS

• Caring for a family member, camp counseling, ABA, coaching, tutoring, food service, or retail — showing up reliably for people matters more here than any credential
• CPR/First Aid, or willingness to obtain before your start date — we’ll certify you

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Assisting with transfers and mobility; occasional lifting
• Standing, walking, and bending across a shift
• Driving to and between client homes
