As the Community Resource & Capacity Building Coordinator, you'll build partnerships, develop community resource networks, strengthen outreach efforts, and create systems that increase access to essential services beyond dental care. Your work will help ensure patients have access to housing assistance, food resources, behavioral health services, transportation, and other critical supports long after your service year ends.

About Mercy Dental Missions

Mercy Dental Missions is dedicated to improving oral health and overall well-being by providing compassionate dental care to individuals who face barriers to accessing healthcare. Through strong community partnerships and innovative outreach, Mercy Dental Missions works to improve the health of underserved populations while addressing the social factors that impact overall wellness.

As an AmeriCorps VISTA member, you'll help strengthen the organization's infrastructure so it can continue expanding access to care for years to come.

What You'll Do

Build a Community Resource Network

  • Research and develop a comprehensive referral network connecting patients with healthcare, behavioral health, housing, food assistance, transportation, employment, and other community resources.
  • Create and maintain an easy-to-use community resource guide for staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Develop sustainable systems for updating and managing referral information.
  • Identify service gaps and recommend opportunities to strengthen community resource connections.

Strengthen Community Partnerships

  • Build relationships with local nonprofits, healthcare providers, faith-based organizations, and community agencies.
  • Support outreach initiatives that increase awareness of available community resources.
  • Assist with community engagement activities and educational events that promote oral health and overall wellness.
  • Help expand collaborative partnerships that improve access to care for underserved populations.

Support Organizational Growth

  • Assist with fundraising events and donor engagement initiatives.
  • Create marketing materials, newsletters, social media content, and patient success stories that highlight the organization's impact.
  • Develop systems that improve community outreach and stakeholder engagement.
  • Support volunteer and community engagement efforts that strengthen organizational sustainability.

Improve Data & Program Evaluation

  • Develop systems for tracking referrals, partnerships, and community resource utilization.
  • Assist with data collection, reporting, and program evaluation.
  • Create tools that measure community impact and support continuous improvement.
  • Help organize information that strengthens grant applications and future funding opportunities.
