This role balances administrative tasks—such as HRIS management, credit card reconciliation, systems/logistical support, and audit preparation—with essential on-the-ground support like front desk coverage and medication administration. The Operations & Compliance Manager is the school’s central hub for data integrity, financial accuracy, and student health services.
The ideal candidate for this role will possess a keen attention to detail and strong problem solving skills and they will bring experience with operational systems and technology. There will be meaningful support for learning this role in the Meridian PCS context, and the ideal candidate will have a desire for professional growth as part of a strong team. This position will report directly to the Director of Finance and Compliance (DFC).
Key Responsibilities
1. Fiscal & Operational Audit Support
Working with the Director of Finance and Compliance and other members of Meridian’s Operations Team:
- Audit Preparedness: Support internal and external audits as a critical member of the Finance & Compliance team (Financial, OSSE/NSLP, Health & Safety, and Charter Board reviews).
- Document Management: Maintain a digital and physical "Audit Trail" for all school operations; proactively collect, organize, and verify backup documentation (invoices, receipts, meal logs, and personnel files).
- Compliance Testing: Assist the Director in performing periodic "mock audits" to identify and correct data gaps before official reviews.
2. Finance & HR Operations
In partnership with the Finance and People Operations team:
- Systems Management: Act as the lead data entry specialist for the HRIS (e.g., ADP, Paylocity) and Accounting Software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, or Bill.com).
- Credit Card Reconciliation: Manage the school’s credit card platforms; reconcile all monthly statements, ensuring 100% receipt attachment and accurate budget coding.
- Benefits & Open Enrollment: Assist with the administration of employee benefits and lead the data side of the annual Open Enrollment process.
- Accounts Payable: Process vendor payments and maintain an organized, searchable AP history.
3. Logistics, Assets & NSLP Compliance
As a critical member of the Meridian Operations team, the Operations and Compliance Manager will also:
- NSLP Claims: Consolidate daily meal counts and submit monthly reimbursement claims via the state portal (e.g., OSSE).
- Asset Management: Maintain the master inventory for IT hardware and school property; ensure all high-value items are tagged and tracked.
- Procurement: Facilitate the purchasing lifecycle from PO creation to delivery verification.
- Medication Administration: Maintain Medication Administration Training (MAT) certification to safely dispense and log student medications at Meridian’s the elementary campus.
- Front Desk Coverage: Provide back-up support to the front office, ensuring a professional and welcoming environment for families and visitors.
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer or his/her/their designee.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Associate's Degree in Business or Finance preferred but not required
- Experience: 4+ years in operations with responsibility for managing projects, systems, and multi-step tasks. Experience in a non-profit or charter school environment, especially in DC, is highly valued but not necessary.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (ie. QuickBooks), ADP HRIS system, asset management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to read graphs, charts, and dashboards that report operational data.
- Leadership: Proven track record of managing diverse and complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; bilingual (English/Spanish preferred, but not required) is a significant plus given the DC community context.
- Flexibility and problem solving: , Given the ongoing needs of the organization as it relates to scheduling and collaboration with various stakeholders.

Meridian teachers and staff are compensated competitively for their time and have opportunities to earn additional income through leadership opportunities at the school level, offering extracurricular clubs and sports for students, and facilitating tutoring programs.
This is a 12-month salaried position with a range from $70,000.00-$75,000.00.
