Position Summary
The Occupational Therapist provides treatment to support the development, rehabilitation, and functional independence of patients with physical, cognitive, or emotional challenges. Direct patient care staff must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy
- Clinical experience preferred
- Current Occupational Therapy license in good standing with the State of Michigan
- BLS certification required within 3 months of hire
- Valid Michigan driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance (required for Bronson at Home coverage)
- Keyboarding and basic computer skills
- Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Frequent standing and walking
- Regular lifting of up to 50 lbs; assisting with heavier patient‑handling tasks
- Mental/visual fatigue typical of roles with varied duties and deadlines
- Up to 40 percent of time using a computer or mobile device
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Interpret and implement referrals; evaluate functional status using standardized assessments
- Establish treatment plans, education plans, and patient goals
- Provide direct patient care and facilitate skill development for functional independence
- Educate patients, families, and the community
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and discussions
- Design and fabricate splints or assistive devices as needed
- Support program development and department process improvement
- Serve as a resource in areas of expertise and provide in‑services
- Cross‑train and provide coverage across Rehabilitation Services as needed
Administrative Duties
- Document evaluations, treatment plans, interventions, and progress within required timelines
- Communicate documentation barriers to leadership
- Maintain accurate, legible, and complete patient records
- Participate in committees, task forces, and process improvement initiatives
- Demonstrate effective time‑management skills
- Supervise COTAs, Rehab Clinical Assistants, OT/COTA students, volunteers, and athletic trainers
Professional Expectations
Occupational Therapists are responsible for maintaining and upgrading competencies based on the population served, the type of care provided, and advances in healthcare science and technology.
Driving Requirement (if applicable)
For Bronson at Home coverage, regular use of your personal vehicle is required. An MVR check must be completed after offer and before start date. Employees must maintain valid auto insurance and update Bronson if coverage changes or a different vehicle is used for business purposes.
