Practicum Education Advisor
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Practicum Education, the Practicum Education Advisor for the Generalist Year Cohort (10 to 15 students) and Advanced Year, including Advanced Standing and HSE cohorts (12-18 students), plays a vital role in supporting students' practicum learning experiences. Serving as both an instructor and a liaison to practicum agencies, the advisor ensures that students receive the guidance, monitoring, and evaluation necessary to meet social work competencies and align with BUSSW’s curriculum standards.
Beyond advising students, the Practicum Education Advisor serves as a resource and consultant for practicum instructors and educational coordinators within practicum agencies. They provide support in understanding the BUSSW curriculum, particularly in aligning agency-based tasks and assignments with classroom learning objectives. The advisor represents and upholds the educational goals of the practicum program, working to enhance students' learning experiences.
Responsibilities:
- Attend the Practicum Education Orientation at the beginning of the academic year.
- Meet with each student individually, virtually, on a monthly basis.
- Teach and facilitate Practicum Education seminars for an assigned group, conducting 14 sessions per placement cycle for the Generalist Year, and monthly for the Advanced level.
- Attend monthly practicum advisors' meetings.
- Conduct at least one practicum site visit per semester virtually to meet with the practicum instructor. The first visit should take place before the end of the first semester, prior to assigning a grade.
- Meet with the assigned Placement Coordinator at least once per semester to review student progress.
- Review students' learning contracts each semester, review and assess students' practicum tasks and assignments, and monitor students' timesheets and practicum evaluations.
- Assign practicum instruction grades, gather supporting documentation, and submit all required materials to the Practicum Education Department in a timely manner.
- Assist and advise placement coordinators on practicum placement opportunities as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- MSW degree from CSWE accredited programs with a minimum of 2 years of post MSW professional experience.
- Licensure for Clinical Social Workers or equivalent in their state of practice is strongly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Basic computer skills, access to a computer, and a telephone compatible with BU-required software.
Appointment Term & Salary: Equivalent to one placement cycle
- Group A: Fall and Spring semesters $14,700 total, paid across September to April
- Group B: Summer semester $7,350 total, paid across May to August

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty training, and internal pay comparison. The above hiring amount represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting.
