Position Summary
Under the direction and guidance of a licensed Physical Therapist, the Physical Therapist Assistant provides treatment to patients with injuries or muscle, nerve, joint, and bone conditions to improve or restore function, increase strength, relieve pain, and enhance independence. Direct patient care staff must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program (required)
- PTA experience preferred
- PTA license in good standing with the State of Michigan
- BLS certification required within 3 months of hire
- Valid Michigan driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance (required for Bronson at Home coverage)
- Basic computer and typing skills
- Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Frequent standing and walking
- Regular lifting of up to 20 lbs and assisting with heavier patient‑handling tasks
- Occasional mental/visual fatigue due to varied duties and deadlines
- Up to 40 percent of time using a computer or mobile device
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Follow the plan of care and goals established by the Physical Therapist
- Provide direct patient care, including physical, electrical, mechanical, and heat treatments
- Conduct individual and/or group therapy activities
- Educate patients, families, and the community
- Participate in interdisciplinary discussions and hospital rounds
- Support program development and serve as a resource in areas of expertise
- Participate in student rotations and provide in‑services as needed
- Cross‑train and provide coverage across Rehabilitation Services as required
Administrative Duties
- Document in the electronic health record within required timelines
- Communicate any documentation barriers to leadership
- Maintain accurate, legible, and complete patient records
- Participate in committees, task forces, and process improvement
- Demonstrate effective time management
- Supervise Rehab Clinical Assistants, PTA students, and volunteers
- Maintain and upgrade competencies based on population needs and advances in care
Bronson at Home Requirements (if applicable)
- Regular use of personal vehicle for business purposes
- Successful MVR check prior to start date
- Maintain valid auto insurance and provide updates as required
