Position Overview
Catalyst Maria is seeking an engaging Financial Literacy Teacher to prepare students with the real-world knowledge and skills needed for life beyond high school. Rooted in our mission of teaching minds and touching hearts, this role is essential in equipping scholars with the tools to make informed financial decisions, build independence, and achieve long-term success.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in Financial Literacy, including:
- Budgeting, saving, and money management
- Banking systems and financial institutions
- Credit, loans, and interest
- Taxes, paychecks, and financial planning
- Insurance and risk management
- Consumer awareness and decision-making
- Incorporate real-world applications, simulations, and project-based learning to make content relevant and meaningful.
- Support students in developing financial habits that promote independence, responsibility, and long-term stability.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including diverse academic levels, English learners, and students with IEPs.
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing timely feedback and interventions when needed.
- Integrate technology and digital tools to enhance learning and engagement.
School & Community Engagement
- Build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues to foster a supportive learning environment.
- Collaborate with counselors and post-secondary teams to align financial literacy with college and career readiness initiatives.
- Participate in school-wide initiatives, professional development, and community events.
- Contribute to a positive school culture grounded in Catalyst Maria’s values and commitment to equity and access.
Qualifications
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) in Business, Social Science, or a related field.
- Financial Literacy Endorsement (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience teaching financial literacy, business, or related coursework preferred.
- Commitment to working in an urban, college-preparatory school setting.
- Strong instructional, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
