Healthcare Advocate
Mercy Medical Center is a community hospital located in downtown Baltimore where a diverse population is served. It was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1874 to address the dearth of healthcare services available to the underserved and continues to stay true to that mission today. Mercy Medical Center is one of the few hospitals in the nation with a Magnet designation. The campus includes a state-of-the-art, 300-bed patient tower. Two volunteers are needed to serve as either a nurse working in a unit that matches the volunteer’s skills and interests or or as a healthcare advocate and care coordinator, creating, implementing, and promoting programs that aim to reduce healthcare costs and improve outcomes for socioeconomically disadvantaged patients.
