Summer Camp Counselor

The General Counselor is a vital part of the camp staff, responsible for providing a safe, fun, and engaging experience for campers. Counselors will live in a bunk with campers, supervise activities, and help ensure each camper enjoys their time at camp while promoting positive relationships and personal growth. The role requires enthusiasm, leadership, and a commitment to creating a memorable experience for every camper.


Key Responsibilities
As a General Counselor, you will live in a bunk with campers and play a vital role in both their cabin life and daily activities. 

Your responsibilities include:
In-Bunk Responsibilities
● Support the camp’s purpose, goals, and objectives, helping campers make the most of their experience.
● Build strong relationships with each camper, fostering a positive group dynamic and helping manage individual needs.
● Guide campers in developing mutual respect, teamwork, and cooperation within the bunk.
● Supervise and participate in bunk housekeeping duties, including daily cleanup, towel/linen exchange, and general cleanliness.
● Monitor shower schedules and ensure proper camper hygiene.
● Make sure campers are dressed appropriately and equipped for their daily activities and special programs.
● Organize and lead bunk-specific activities, including on- and off-camp trips.
● Enforce camp rules and uphold safety standards in the bunk environment.
● Participate in On Duty patrols to ensure camper safety during non-activity hours.
● Contribute to camper assessments and written reports.
● Assist with setting up and closing down the bunk at the beginning and end of the season, including helping campers unpack and pack their trunks.


Daily Activities Responsibilities
● Accompany and supervise campers during all activities, including specialty programs and meal times, ensuring safety, engagement, participation, and positive connections.
● Participate in camp-wide events, evening activities, and assist in other camp areas as needed.
● Support camp operations with additional duties as assigned by Camp Directors.


Qualifications:
● At least 18 years old with prior experience working with children, ideally in a camp or recreational setting.
● Strong communication, teamwork, and a positive, enthusiastic approach with campers.
● Ability to supervise campers, ensure their safety, and adapt to changing tasks as needed.
