Reading Interventionist 26/27 School Year

The Neosho School District is searching for a full time Reading Interventionist for the 2026/2027 school year.

The Junior High Reading Interventionist provides targeted, research-based literacy instruction to students in grades 7 and 8 who require additional support in reading. This position is specifically designed to identify reading deficits, deliver focused interventions, monitor student progress, and collaborate with classroom teachers to enhance overall literacy achievement. The interventionist plays a critical role in helping students build foundational and advanced reading skills necessary for academic success across content areas.

This is a specialized intervention position focused on closing literacy gaps and accelerating reading growth for junior high students. The Reading Interventionist helps ensure that all students develop the literacy skills needed to access grade-level content and succeed academically.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver small-group and/or one-on-one reading interventions aligned with evidence-based instructional practices
  • Assess students’ reading abilities using diagnostic, formative, and summative tools to identify skill gaps in areas such as fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and decoding
  • Develop and implement individualized or small-group intervention plans based on student data
  • Progress monitor student growth regularly and adjust instruction accordingly
    Collaborate with English Language Arts (ELA) teachers, special education staff, and other stakeholders to support student learning goals
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, intervention strategies, and outcomes
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and strategies for support at home
  • Support students in developing reading confidence, engagement, and independent literacy habits
  • Participate in professional development focused on literacy instruction and intervention strategies
  • Assist in implementing school-wide literacy initiatives and programs
     

EDUCATIONAL/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Education: Bachelor's degree in Education, Reading/Literacy, or a related field required; Master’s degree in Reading/Literacy preferred.

Certification: Valid Missouri teaching license; Reading Specialist or Literacy endorsement preferred.

Experience: Minimum of two years of classroom teaching experience, preferably in reading or literacy instruction.
