About the Role

Bronson Battle Creek Hospital is seeking an experienced Nurse Manager to lead our Birthplace inpatient services, including Labor & Delivery, Mother Baby, and Antepartum. This key leadership role is responsible for nursing operations, clinical excellence, employee engagement, quality outcomes, and an exceptional patient experience across our maternal–newborn services.

The Nurse Manager partners closely with physicians and interdisciplinary teams and provides oversight of professional and ancillary staff, ensuring safe, high-quality, patient‑centered care.

About the Birthplace

Bronson Battle Creek Birthplace delivers comprehensive maternal–newborn care in a modern inpatient setting, including:

  • 15‑bed unit
  • 11 Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Postpartum (LDRP) beds
  • 4 Antepartum/Post‑Op beds
  • 2 Operating Rooms
  • 3 Triage bays
  • Newborn nursery

Patient populations include pregnant, laboring, and postpartum patients, as well as healthy newborns.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Provide overall leadership and operational oversight for assigned nursing units
  • Ensure compliance with organizational, regulatory, and accreditation standards
  • Lead staffing, scheduling, and resource utilization to support safe, effective care
  • Participate in short‑ and long‑term planning and budget development

Quality, Safety & Patient Experience

  • Evaluate the quality, effectiveness, and appropriateness of nursing care
  • Promote patient‑ and family‑centered care, advocacy, and ethical treatment
  • Ensure compliance with documentation, medication, and safety standards
  • Investigate and resolve incidents, complaints, and service concerns

Staff Engagement & Development

  • Recruit, hire, orient, mentor, develop, and retain nursing and support staff
  • Foster shared governance, unit councils, and staff participation in decision‑making
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support ongoing professional development
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and culturally competent work environment

Collaboration & Clinical Practice

  • Partner closely with physicians and interdisciplinary teams
  • Support evidence‑based practice, peer review, and clinical excellence
  • Serve as a resource for complex or sensitive clinical situations
  • Ensure care delivery aligns with professional nursing standards and scope of practice

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • 3–5 years of progressively responsible clinical and supervisory nursing experience
  • Current Michigan RN license in good standing
  • BLS certification
  • Strong communication, leadership, and data‑analysis skills
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and standard computer applications

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, MBA, or Master of Health Administration
  • Prior leadership experience in women’s health or maternal–newborn services

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 20 pounds; assist with heavier tasks as needed
  • Sustained mental focus and computer use up to 40–70% of the time
  • Ability to manage physically and mentally demanding situations in a fast‑paced clinical environment
