Contingent Autopsy Assistant
About the Position:
The Department of Pathology at Stanford University School of Medicine is seeking a part-time Autopsy Assistant will assist in the dissection and processing of specimens collected during research autopsies and is present in the autopsy suite during procedures. The role supports proper tissue handling under guidance and follows established sterile and safety protocols. Through this work, the individual gains exposure to anatomy, pathology, and tissue dissection and handling techniques.
Contingent Autopsy Assistants may respond to urgent autopsy cases when available, including possible night and weekend hours; attendance at every case is not mandatory, baseline availability is negotiated, and autopsies typically last approximately 3–4 hours. Dr. Jody Hooper is based at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, health sciences, or related field
- Experience in pathology
- Experience in patient care
Working Conditions:
- Due to the nature of the work, this position will work 100% on-site
- Term of appointment: approximately a 1-year term
- Location: 300 Pasteur Drive, Palo Alto, CA
- Recently opened, state of the art Stanford autopsy suite
- Approximately 8 - 10 hours/week
- The expected pay range for this position is $29.04 - $71.47 per hour, based on education and relevant experience.
