Controls/Automation Engineer - Co-Op (January-April 2027)

 

ThermalTech Engineering is a full-service engineering firm. We provide consulting services to Fortune 100 and 500 companies throughout the United States. Our team of over 150 members is growing! We are looking for co-op students interested in Automation design for industrial facilities.

  • Upon returning to school, you will have a greater appreciation and application of engineering.  Our co-op students occasionally tailor their coursework based on their experience at ThermalTech.
  • You will be challenged.  Our co-op students are assigned to projects on their first day. We rely on our co-ops to execute projects.

 

Applicable Interests:

 

  • Strong academic performance in an ABET-accredited engineering or computer science program (a minimum of 3.0 is required for consideration).
  • Experience/coursework and interest in automatic process control theory, power system analysis, electrical machines, and/or industrial control systems.
  • Interest in developing engineering drawings, device selection, programming, and hands-on fieldwork including start-up.

 

Throughout your assignment, you’ll have the opportunity to learn the following skills:

 

  • Design control panels, create electrical schematics, select field devices, and program PLCs.
  • Develop SCADA systems including HMI graphics, databases/historians, batching systems, and server infrastructure.
  • Prepare drawings in AutoCAD.
  • Use AutoCAD software to develop the content needed for a drawing package that contains plan, perspective, section, and details.
  • Perform fieldwork and troubleshooting.
  • Meet with clients, contractors, and colleagues throughout the design and construction process. Build and maintain long-term relationships.
  • Set up networking, wireless, wired, virtual/cloud LAN/WAN technologies, and security.
