Litigation Paralegal (Hybrid)—Public Interest Law Firm (Washington, D.C.)

Tycko & Zavareei LLP, a mid-sized plaintiffs' civil litigation law firm, seeks a highly organized and detail-oriented Paralegal to join its Washington, D.C. office, beginning May 2026, to aid in the litigation of important, impactful cases nationwide.

This is a full-time, hybrid work opportunity, ideal for someone with experience in a professional legal support role who is accustomed to a fast-paced environment and able to hit the ground running in May Applications for this opening will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with preference given to those received by April 19.

Each member of our legal staff is a critical cog in the firm’s operational wheel. Our paralegals work closely with our attorneys in all aspects of litigation, from early case development through final resolution, and provide simultaneous support to multiple case teams. They are highly efficient, profuse with details, and masters of juggling multitudinous tasks to get the job (many jobs) done.

CURRENT OPENING

  • Position:  Paralegal
  • Class:  Full-Time, Non-Exempt
  • Start Date:  May 2026
  • Location:  Washington, D.C. / Hybrid (onsite 3 days/week)
  • Regular Schedule:  Full-Time (40h/w), Monday-Friday, 9:00-5:30PM (occasional overtime)

This role partners with other staff to provide our attorneys with meaningful case assistance across all stages of litigation, from initiation to resolution, by performing case-management, organizational, drafting, research, coordination, and other substantive and administrative tasks as needed and delegated.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in gaining professional law firm experience to develop the skills required to be elevated to a senior paralegal role, and/or someone planning to apply to law school two or more years down the road (to start fall 2028 or later) and desiring exposure to an exciting legal environment. Our legal staff have gone on to attend some of the best law schools in the country, including Harvard, Columbia, NYU, University of Virginia, and Georgetown.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Manage and coordinate complex briefings and electronically file pleadings and motions in accordance with court local rules and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure 
  • Organize and maintain case files, internal records, and attorney calendars to reflect matter docket and deadlines 
  • Draft and proofread correspondence, memos, and other communications 
  • Routinely communicate with attorneys, clients, and co-counsel about case status and preparation 
  • Anticipate case needs and communicate with case attorneys to proactively establish next steps and provide support 
  • Assist attorneys with propounding and responding to discovery (interrogatories, requests for admissions, and request for production, subpoenas, and preparing deposition binders) 
  • Conduct client and case intake calls; speak with class members regarding their cases 
  • Perform basic factual legal research using Westlaw and online resources 
  • Assist attorneys and other teammates on special projects and other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree (or other college degree/certification together with substantial professional paralegal work experience); and 
  • Minimum one year of professional work experience in a law firm or other fast-paced, high-volume legal setting 
  • Able to work overtime on occasion as needed to finish time-sensitive assignments 
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Excellent time management skills in adhering to multiple deadlines and juggling myriad assignments simultaneously 
  • Proactive communication and professionalism in all interactions with clients, attorneys, staff, and others 
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality 
  • Knack for building strong working relationships in a hybrid multi-office team environment 
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Adobe Suite and Microsoft products (i.e. Word, Outlook, and Excel, etc.) 

Preferred:

  • Solid understanding of civil litigation processes, including state and federal deadlines and rules 
  • Experience using PACER and e-filing court systems 
  • Experience using Westlaw (or other legal research software) 
  • Bluebooking skills 
  • Experience with time tracking/legal billing 

Compensation and Benefits

  • Anticipated Base Range:  $27.00–$33.00 per hour commensurate with relevant experience
