Job Description

Job Title: Accounting Intern

Reports To: Controller

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

 

Summary:

The Accounting Intern will support the Accounting Department with day-to-day accounting and administrative tasks while gaining hands on experience in a professional accounting environment. This internship is designed to provide practical exposure to general accounting functions, internal controls, and financial reporting under close supervision.

 

Essential Responsibilities/Duties: 

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded or adjusted as needed.

 

  • Assist in maintaining accounts receivable records, including invoicing customers and posting cash receipts.
  • Actively engage with customers to maintain effective collection efforts reduce past due balances 
  • Assist with preparing bank deposits and supporting related documentation.
  • Assist in preparing and entering basic monthly general ledger journal entries.
  • Match customer invoices to shipment logs and picking lists.
  • Support to Accounts Payable as needed.
  • Assist with SOP documents update and control
  • Perform other accounting related analysis as assigned

  • Develop a basic understanding of how accounting principles and internal controls are applied to business. 
  • Gain hands-on experience with accounting systems and financial documentation.
  • Learn professional workplace communication and time management skills.

 

Aptitudes and Abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn and take direction from multiple team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds; occasional lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

 

 

Education/ Training:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Analysis, or a related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Prior accounting or office experience is helpful but not required.
  • Coursework in accounting, finance or Business Analysis tools is a must

 

Skills: 

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff within and outside the department.
