Camp Read is home to the Greater Hudson Valley Council's Scouting America summer resident camp. It is a 1000 acre camping facility located deep in the woods of the Adirondack Mountains in Brant Lake, New York. For six and a half weeks in the summer, our trained staff run a high quality, energetic, week-long camping experience for Scouting units and individuals.

HIRING INFORMATION
We're hiring Lifeguards to safely run our aquatics programs. This includes lifeguarding, skill instruction, open swim, open boating, and camp wide activities. All aquatics staff must be a certified Red Cross Lifeguard, physically able to act quickly in emergencies, effectively communicate and clearly understand oral and written communications. We help our staff to get certified with in house training and outside vendor reimbursement!
Required Staff Training Week: June 25th - July 4th
Camp Season: July 5th - August 8th
Closing Week: August 9th - 12th
Qualifications
- Minimum age is 16. If hired, must register as a member of the Scouting America and pass a criminal background check
- Full-season availability
- Some outdoor camping experience
- Enjoy working outside
- Have a passion for working with youth
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with campers, leaders, staff, and visitors.
General Responsibilities of Lifeguards - Aquatics Staff
- Every staff member helps maintain a fun, welcoming, and inclusive environment where every camper feels like they belong.
- Offer a quality aquatics program to include merit badges, Safe Swim Defense, Safety Afloat, open boating, and open swimming.
- The maintenance, inventory, security, safety, and use of all aquatic equipment.
- Set-up, and takedown, of all aquatic facilities.
- Classify all campers according to their swimming ability during check-in and as needed throughout the camp period.
- Submission of end of week advancement report on all aquatic’s activities due at end of week.
- Assist with the opening and closedown of the camp.
- All other duties as assigned.
Compensation:
- Pay ranges from $350/week up to $500/week depending on experience.
- There is a $200 bonus for working the full 6.5 weeks.
- Room & Board is included at no cost to staff.
