Job Description: Program Accountant

Job Title: Program Accountant
Supervisor: Controller
Hours: 8:30-4:30 M-F, with paid lunch
Location: Foundation office, 216 Franklin St., Johnstown, PA. This is not a work-remote position.
Rate: Full-time with generous benefits; $50,000 - $60,000 annual salary depending on experience

 

Position Overview 

Currently Interviewing/On hold 4-2-2026.  We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Program Accountant to join our accounting team. The successful candidate will assist in preparing accounting records, financial statements, and reports for programs and assisting the organization from a fiscal perspective through its next stage of growth.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of accounting records, financial statements, and reports for programs, supporting organizations, and affiliates
  • Assist programs, supporting organizations, and affiliates with budgets
  • Meet with Nonprofit Partner programs, as appropriate, to provide support, answer questions, etc.
  • Review processes to improve financial efficiency
  • Daily, weekly, and/or monthly review of donations, vouchers, and bank reconciliation
  • Access bank accounts to submit ACH reports, Positive Pay reports, review outstanding checks, review ACH/wires, review ACH withdrawals
  • Post semi-monthly payroll journal entries
  • Prepare financials for grant reports 
  • Prepare budget and financials for meetings
  • Support Controller, as needed

 

Ideal Candidates

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • CPA certification preferred but not required
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite, with ability to gain proficiency in foundation-specific software and technology
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with auditing and financial statement preparation
  • Knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
  • Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision, and as part of a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong time management skills and ability to multi-task projects and priorities
  • Ability to analyze, think critically, and explain alternatives clearly
  • Ability to anticipate needs and ask questions
  • Maintain high level of confidentiality

This is a full-time, exempt position. Full-time employees regularly work at least a 37.5-hour workweek in a business environment. Exempt employees are not entitled to overtime pay.
