Summer Bike/Paddling Instructor - Full OR Part time Burlington VT

Vermont Adaptive is looking for interns that are self-motivated, take initiative and have some experience or desire to learn about working with people who have disabilities and adventure recreation. 

 

Overview of Duties, Responsibilities, and Requirements

  • Lead and instruct biking, climbing and paddling programs for individuals with disabilities. Support sailing programs.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator in overall operations of Vermont Adaptive Programming
  • Communicate effectively with volunteers, staff and coordinator both within Vermont Adaptive and with partnering organizations
  • Promote, facilitate and oversee adaptive programs
  • Maintain and assess repairs for all equipment and vehicles
  • Help with special events throughout the state
  • Attend and help facilitate volunteer training days
  • Driving to local trail networks and lift access in Vermont.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • All interns must be at least 16 years of age
  • Clean driving record and reliable transportation
  • Enrolled in, or recently completed a college/university track related to outdoor programming, therapeutic recreation, adventure education, special education, physical therapy or related field
  • First aid and CPR certification required, Wilderness First Responder preferred. Will provide certs upon hiring.
  • Competency in computer programs:  google suite, word, excel, and publisher
  • Commitment to the entire season (June 1-August 31), Sept if available
  • Knowledge of repair and maintenance of cycling and paddling equipment
  • Strong cycling/climbing/paddling experience, instruction experience preferred
  • All interns must have a strong work ethic, flexibility, a love for the outdoors, an open mind and a love for working with people
