Natural Resources Monitor

Natural Resources Monitor (Environmental Compliance / Biological Monitoring)

 

Location: Near Ajo, Arizona – U.S./Mexico Border Region
Schedule: Field-based | 5–7 days per week | Extended daily field hours

We are seeking an experienced Natural Resources Monitor to support environmental compliance and biological monitoring activities in the Sonoran Desert near Ajo, Arizona. This role is ideal for environmental professionals with strong field experience in Southwest desert ecosystems, particularly those familiar with Threatened and Endangered (T&E) species monitoring, environmental compliance, and construction monitoring.

The selected candidate will work closely with project teams to ensure field activities comply with environmental regulations and Best Management Practices (BMPs) while helping protect sensitive desert wildlife and plant communities.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily environmental compliance monitoring during field operations.
  • Monitor and document plant and wildlife species, including Threatened and Endangered (T&E) species common to the Southwest desert.
  • Ensure project activities follow environmental permits and best management practices (BMPs).
  • Prepare and submit daily monitoring reports, including written observations and photographic documentation.
  • Maintain a daily photolog with geotagged images documenting field conditions and monitoring activities.
  • Communicate environmental concerns and compliance issues with project personnel in real time.

 

Work Schedule & Field Conditions

  • Up to 10 hours per day onsite, plus approximately 2 hours of daily drive time.
  • Standard schedule of 5 days per week, with potential to extend to 7 days per week depending on project demands.
  • Work takes place in remote desert terrain and may involve long days outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of environmental monitoring or biological field experience in Southwest desert environments.
  • Knowledge of Sonoran Desert flora and fauna, including federally listed Threatened and Endangered species.
  • Experience with environmental compliance monitoring and BMP implementation.
  • Ability to work independently in remote field settings.
  • Strong technical writing and daily reporting skills.
  • Experience collecting accurate geotagged photographic documentation.

  • Mileage reimbursement or company vehicle provided for daily travel (in accordance with federal GSA rates).
  • Lodging provided near the project area.
  • Daily per diem provided based on federal GSA rates.

 

Project Location:

Fieldwork will occur near Ajo, Arizona, along the U.S.–Mexico border.
Approximate project start location: 32°02'15"N, 113°19'43"W.
