Camp Housekeeper/Dishwasher

Position Purpose: 

To assist the Housekeeping and Food Service functions of Camp WeHaKee, through general cleaning tasks throughout camp, and operating dishwashing machine for meals.

Essential Job Functions:

• Assist in the daily operations of the camp food service through dishwashing operations.
  • Assist in routine sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment 
  • Clean and maintain all food-preparation and storage areas 
  • Wash all dishes, serving and preparation equipment and utensils according to regulated washing methods and temperatures
• Assist in housekeeping operations including routine cleaning of shared facilities and light groundskeeping or maintenance work
  • Collect and transport trash and recycling throughout camp property
  • Water flowers and pull weeds in landscaped areas
  • Thorough daily cleaning of bathrooms and showers
  • Laundering of towels, rags, and other materials
  • Misc. light maintenance work, such as replacing lightbulbs, etc.

Other Job Duties:

May occasionally support kitchen assistants with setting up the food buffet line, cleaning and monitoring beverage machines in the dining room.  

Assist with inventory management and food unloading and storage, as requested.

Occasional coordination of camper/staff laundry for pickup/dropoff by local vendor.

Optional: develop and implement a composting system for the camp community

Minimum Qualifications and experience

• Desire to work in the housekeeping and food service areas at a summer camp facility
• Basic knowledge of kitchen sanitation, storage of food and dishwashing procedures is preferred
• Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds including unloading food, carry trays of dishes, transporting laundry and trash, lifting supplies and equipment as needed
• Visual ability to identify and respond to environmental hazards
• Physical ability to operate kitchen and cleaning equipment and according to safe recommended methods
• Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing for long periods of time (60 minutes or more)
• Determine cleanliness of dishes, food surfaces, and kitchen area.
• Determine cleanliness of restroom and shower facilities.

This position lives on-site at Camp WeHaKee and works full time+ from June 1 through August 18, 2026.
