Basketball Instructor

Job Title: Basketball Instructor – Preschool, Youth & Teen (Part-Time – Weekday & Saturdays)

Location: MacColl YMCA (Lincoln RI)
Schedule: Saturdays, 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM, Midweek TBD
Program Dates: October 31st (2026) - May (2027)

Position Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and engaging Basketball Instructor to lead Saturday morning programs for children and teens, ranging from preschoolers (ages 3–5) to youth (ages 6–12) and teens (ages 13–17). The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for working with young athletes and the ability to create a fun, safe, and supportive environment while teaching the fundamentals of basketball.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and instruct basketball programs for Preschool, Youth, and Teen participants

Create a positive, energetic, and inclusive learning environment

Teach basic and advanced basketball skills, including dribbling, passing, shooting, and teamwork

Design age-appropriate drills, games, and activities for skill development

Adapt instruction to meet the developmental and skill levels of participants

Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants at all times

Set up and break down equipment before and after each session

Communicate effectively with parents/guardians and YMCA staff

Assist with program organization and manage multiple age groups as needed

Qualifications

Experience working with children and teens in sports or recreational programs required

Knowledge of basketball fundamentals for all ages required

Coaching or teaching experience preferred

Energetic, patient, and reliable with strong communication skills

Ability to manage multiple age groups in a fun and structured environment

Preferred Qualifications

Background in Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field

Prior experience coaching youth and teen basketball programs

CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
