Job Description and Duties
Our mission is to prevent loss of life and reduce property damage caused by high water and floods. We are part of a team that utilizes its engineering skills and background to support that mission. We are the technical experts that respond to requests for flood fight support day or night. We are in the field working throughout the year to identify and report on threats and improve the flood control facilities that protect our communities. Under the direction of the Senior Engineer, Water Resources assist in the inspection and evaluation of levees, channels, flood control structures, and designated floodways throughout the State. This position requires strong organizational skills to document, review, and report on data collected in the field using a database or similar tool. Applicant should be able to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, and agency regulations in order to perform construction over site. Utilize sound engineering judgment to make recommendations to supervisor on the compliance of existing and active construction projects. Work cooperatively and in a courteous and professional manner with staff, the public, other agencies, and the media. Be able to provide technical guidance to local maintaining agencies responding to difficult levee-threatening situations and actual flood emergencies. Must be willing to work extended hours (including nights, weekends, and holidays) during high water and flood emergencies.
