The Grand Rapids Lantern Festival at John Ball Zoo is a breathtaking experience of light and wonder: a one-mile tour along a path illuminated by handcrafted Asian lantern displays that tell the intersecting story of wildlife and Asian culture.
Volunteer groups play a key role in keeping guests moving comfortably throughout this event while adding a little extra brightness to their experience. Volunteers are welcome to explore the full event as a guest after their shift! Groups are able to select the date they would like to volunteer, and if interested in returning may select additional dates.
During this event volunteer groups will:
- Help guide guests along the event’s designated path at key junctions
- Assist with general directions & questions
- Maintain a safe, steady flow of guest traffic
- Take photos for guests
We are looking for groups who are
- 18 years old or older
- Group size of 3 - 9 individuals
- Group may be split up and spread out to 3 key locations around the event
- Comfortable engaging with guests in a positive, friendly manner
