Planning Student Intern

The Planning Student Intern II supports Carrollton's Planning Division by assisting with daily operations, providing customer service, and helping process development‑related applications. This role offers hands‑on experience with zoning, subdivision regulations, and case management while working closely with professional planners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Planning Division with daily operations, customer service, and application processing.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for Planning phone calls and email inquiries.
  • Research the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance (CZO) and Comprehensive Subdivision Ordinance (CSO) to respond to public inquiries.
  • Process TABC applications under supervision.
  • Prepare Zoning Verification Letters using established templates.
  • Schedule and attend predevelopment meetings.
  • Update planning spreadsheets and tracking tools.
  • Track plat signatures, filing status, and related documentation.
  • Assist with public notifications and case preparation.
  • Conduct research to support planning staff and ongoing projects.
  • Attend Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council meetings for assigned cases.
  • After shadowing one case per planner, independently manage one plat case and one SUP case with oversight.
  • Proactively manage workload, maintain personal schedule, track deadlines, and provide progress updates during weekly Planning meetings.
  • Demonstrate strong initiative, organization, and professional communication skills while working independently.

Qualifications

Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a college or university program in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Political Science, Architecture, or a related field.

Minimum preferred GPA of 2.5.
