Shire Village Camp in Cummington is looking to add dedicated staff members to our team for the upcoming summer!
Shire Village Camp is a residential summer camp that values creativity, community, and camper-centered experiences. Our counselors are the heart of camp life—mentors, role models, and caretakers who create a safe and joyful environment for children to grow.
Job Overview:
Bunk Counselors live in cabins with a small group of campers and are responsible for their physical, emotional, and social well-being. Working closely with co-counselors and program staff, counselors help campers navigate daily routines, mediate conflicts, support personal growth, and participate in all aspects of camp life.
Responsibilities:
Live in a cabin with approximately 6–10 campers and 1–2 co-counselors
Create a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for all campers
Supervise campers during daily activities, meals, transitions, and rest times
Support campers through homesickness, interpersonal challenges, and daily needs
Lead or assist with camp activities and special events
Maintain cleanliness and organization in the bunk
Communicate effectively with co-counselors and camp leadership
Uphold camp policies, routines, and safety procedures
Participate in counselor training and regular staff meetings
Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years old or have graduated high school
Previous experience working with children is strongly preferred
Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Enthusiasm, flexibility, and a sense of humor
Commitment to creating a positive, equitable, and supportive camp culture
Compensation:
Includes room, board, and a seasonal stipend
