Bilingual Tour Guide (Spanish/English) Volunteer
As a Bilingual Tour Guide, you’ll help bring the organization’s story to life by supporting the National Headquarters (NHQ) Archives team within the Communications department. The Tour Guide will foster connections and insights through guided experiences.
Job Description:
- Provide engaging, informative, and culturally inclusive in-person tours for visitors, leveraging bilingual fluency to enhance accessibility and understanding.
- Serve as a key representative of the organization's values and mission, ensuring guests receive a welcoming and well-informed experience.
Required Qualifications:
- Fluency in both Spanish and English reading, writing and speaking.
- High level of attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word
- Ability and comfort working independently
- Submission of resume
- Willingness to comply with current public health and American Red Cross policies
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of American history
- Museum, collections, or art handling experience
- College students who are studying History, Museum Studies, Art, Literacy, Language Studies, Archives, Anthropology or related.
As part of onboarding:
- The volunteer will receive training on using the historical collections to answer research requests, collection cataloging, artifact handling, and the tour program.
- Background reading on Red Cross history
- Required tour training sessions that are on-site.
- The tour training requires shadowing and practicing with a trained guide.
- Start with a small tour group and accompany them on their first few tours.
- Practice the tour in English first and then transition to Spanish.
Time Commitment:
- The tours last about an hour.
- At least one day a week on Wednesday or Friday.
- Public tours are 11am and 2pm.
