Long Island Sound Partnership & Marine Fisheries Program Translation
DEEP is seeking a candidate to fill a six-month seasonal resource assistant position. Job duties include interacting with the public, translating interviews and marine recreational fishing regulations in Spanish and Mandarin from shore, boat launches, at marinas, and also on party/charter boats at sea. The job duties may also include written translations of introductory and supporting materials for the surveys, as well as creation of multilingual outreach materials. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license, be highly responsible, and make decisions independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preferred applicants will be able to work full-time for the full six months and have related experience or training.
- Bi-lingual/multi-lingual with focus in languages that occur in Connecticut’s coastal populations (Mandarin and Spanish).
- Established rapport with a community along the coast with connection to fishing.
- Experience in customer service and working independently and in a team setting.
- Experience in oral and written communication.
- Experience in creating outreach materials and the use of InDesign software.
- Interest in marine fisheries and/or natural resource protection.
- Candidate will receive the same training and certification as marine recreational angler survey seasonal staff who conduct the survey.
- Cross-agency training opportunities available.
- Must be at least 18 years old. Must be comfortable talking with the public and working in inclement weather, along with driving long distances. Must be bilingual or multilingual.
