POSITION OVERVIEW
The Behavioral Health Technician role is an ideal entry-level opportunity for students or recent graduates looking to build experience in healthcare or human services. In this role, you’ll work directly with clients in an inpatient residential or clinical setting, supporting their daily routines, safety, and overall well-being.
This position offers real-world exposure to behavioral health care, including crisis support, client interaction, and collaboration with clinical teams. It’s a strong starting point for anyone interested in pursuing a long-term career in mental health, counseling, nursing, or social services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Obtain and record vital signs (BP, respiration, temperature).
- Perform urine drug screens and report results to nursing staff.
- Assist and supervise clients in daily living activities.
- Support special nutritional needs as directed.
- Provide social interaction opportunities for clients.
- Assist with training newly hired Behavioral Health Technicians.
- Complete required 15-minute safety checks.
- Inventory and document client belongings, including contraband and valuables.
- Use approved techniques to de-escalate agitated clients.
- Respond to emergency codes using TEAM physical/verbal methods.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills (Outlook, data entry, word processing).
- Ability to document vital signs and shift notes accurately.
- Ability to remain calm and follow safety protocols in crisis situations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education Level
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
Experience
- One year experience in mental health/addictions facility preferred.
Certification/Licensure
- BLS certification, CNA Certification, or CPR certification or Crisis Training preferred. Valid Florida Driver's License with a safe driving record and current auto insurance.

Pay Range:
$14.25--$20.00
