Position Summary:
This position offers the opportunity to serve a supportive and growing community while gaining experience in a wide range of police duties. Officers perform general-duty police work focused on proactive patrol, crime prevention, and the fair enforcement of state laws and local ordinances. Members of the department play a direct role in preserving the quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors throughout approximately 35 square miles of Bath Charter Township.
Bath Township is located in the southeastern corner of Clinton County, just north of the City of East Lansing and adjacent to Meridian Township, providing officers exposure to both suburban and semi-rural policing. The township includes established residential neighborhoods, apartment communities, commercial businesses, rural farmland, and a major interstate corridor (I-69), offering a balanced workload and a diverse range of calls for service. This position is ideal for officers seeking meaningful community engagement, varied patrol experiences, and the opportunity to make a visible impact in a close-knit township setting.
QUALIFICATIONS - Minimum qualifications for the position are:
- Must be a citizen of the United States
- Must have reached 21st birthday at time of appointment
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Must possess a minimum Associate's Degree
- Ability to successfully pass an extensive background check, physical examination, psychological examination and drug screening test
- Ability to perform the essential job functions of a police officer
- Must be either certified or certifiable as a police officer by M.C.O.L.E.S. before 03/02/2026
- Ability to successfully complete all phases of the selection process
