LTE Fish Hatchery Technician
The positions will primarily assist with broodstock care and spawning activities of trout and salmon returning to the weirs from Lake Michigan. Additional work will include facility maintenance and providing educational programs to groups on site. These positions receive day to day guidance from senior hatchery staff. The positions will be working full time (40 hours per week) for approximately 2 months during the spring steelhead run and will include occasional weekend and holiday work.
50% Assist in the collection and care of wild brood stocks, as well as spawning of eggs. Clean tanks, raceways, and ponds. Observes behavior and monitor for diseases and water quality. Assist with seining moving and sorting fish between ponds.
40% Maintain buildings, grounds and equipment as directed.
10% Assist in seining and loading fish for distribution. Drive distribution truck to stocking location. Temper fish and release to stream/lake.
