Police Officer Academy

A Police Recruit for the City of Arlington is an entry-level law enforcement professional who participates in a comprehensive training program designed to prepare recruits for sworn police officer duties. Under close supervision, the recruit attends a certified police academy to develop foundational knowledge in criminal law, patrol procedures, emergency response, firearms proficiency, defensive tactics, and community-oriented policing. Upon successful completion of academy and field training, the recruit is expected to enforce laws, protect life and property, maintain public order, and build positive relationships with the community while upholding the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and public service.

Recruits will complete a 32-week academy followed by 17 weeks of field training. Upon completion of training, the recruit officer will be assigned to one of our four patrol districts. All patrol officers work 4 - 10 hour days with 3 days off each week.

After an initial time on patrol, officers have the option of moving into specialized units, such as criminal investigations, traffic unit, swat, community support, technical services.

To be eligible for employment at Arlington PD, you must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • Have:
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of post-secondary education as certified through a commission on higher education of a regional educational agency for colleges and universities recognized by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, or
  • Four years of active-duty military experience with an honorable discharge, or
  • 60 hours of college credit with two continuous years as a City of Arlington employee, or
  • 60 hours of college credit with the completion of the Arlington PD Hometown Recruiting Program.

  • Entry (Academy): $83,665/year
  • 1 Year: $87,863/year
  • 2 Years: $92,240/year
  • 3 Years: $96,865/year
  • 4 Years: $101,714/year
  • 5 Years: $106,764/year
  • 15 Years: $109,436/year
  • 20 Years: $112,174/year

Additional Pay
