Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • New York State Teacher Certification in Special Education or Students with Disabilities
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Key Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Create and provide Adapted Physical Education program for all students of the Children’s Learning Center. Provide APE to students in groups and on an individual basis, if recommended by APE teacher or stipulated on IEP.
  • Coordinate the overall programming (educational, therapeutic and social) of students in classroom.
  • Leader of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Implement all aspects of the students’ Individualized Education Plans.
  • Supervise classroom faculty including performance feedback, counseling, disciplinary action and necessary training.
  • Communicate progress of students to parents on a regular basis.
  • Plan and implement written daily lessons and activities for the students, including individual, small, and large group instruction, field trips, art, and music activities.
  • Formally evaluate students as per CPSE/CSE/EI regulations.
  • Prepare student goals and objectives; monitor progress through data collection and report cards.
  • Host school district classroom observations.
  • Prepare for school district site visits and annual reviews.
  • Conduct forums at Open School Night, case conferences, and during Parent-Teacher Conferences.
  • Record and report student attendance.
  • Chair team meetings and classroom meetings including managing all aspects of the team process and procedures.
  • Assist students with all ADL needs including, but not limited to, feeding, transferring, lifting, toileting, dressing (coats), feeding and maintaining a clean and organized classroom etc. as per student’s protocols.
  • Ensure carryover of therapeutic techniques in the classroom.
